UC Irvine Extension Announces New Spring Predictive Analytics Courses

As companies, governments, law enforcement, hospitals and universities continue to harness data to predict the future behavior of customers to increase sales or improve the quality of services offered, University of California, Irvine Extension announced today the availability of two new courses, which are part of its Predictive Analytics Certificate Program. The online classes, titled Big Data and Algorithms, Modeling Methods, Verification & Validation will be offered during spring quarter. In addition, a free webinar titled "The Power to Predict Who Will Click, Buy, Lie or Die" will be hosted by Dr. Eric Siegel, a UC Irvine Extension advisory board member, former Columbia University professor, Predictive Analytics World founder and author of a new book of the same name, for those interested in learning about the importance of big data and the prediction of future behavior.

-- Big Data (April 29 - June 16) - This online course will address the amount and complexity of both internal and external data. Students will learn the skills and tools that are critical for businesses to remain competitive, along with the methods and algorithms for mining massive data sets. Kenneth Reed, Ph.D., who has more than 30 years of experience delivering high value analytics from relational database technology, will serve as the course instructor.
-- Algorithms, Modeling Methods, Verification & Validation (April 1 to May 19) - This online course will instruct students how to use predictive analytics and existing data to create the most effective predictive models. Additional topics covered include predictive analytics algorithms for supervised learning, decision trees, neural networks, support vector machines and model ensembles. The course instructor is Dean Abbott, president of San Diego, Calif.-based Abbott Analytics, which provides advanced data mining, data preparation, and data visualization methods for businesses.
Additionally, a free webinar titled "The Power to Predict Who Will Click, Buy, Lie or Die" will be held on Feb. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PST. Professionals interested in learning about the power of prediction will benefit from Siegel's discussion of the role of predictive analytics to increase profits.
