Property and Insurance Agents to Take to the Cloud via Hyper Desktops
The Kotter Group, a provider of secure, cost-effective virtual desktop services to the insurance agencies, claimed that more independent property and casualty agents are utilizing its Hyper Desktop to take their computing to the cloud. With Hyper Desktops the agents can eliminate the IT burden while at the same time realize high application availability, data security and the flexibility to work from anywhere using an Internet-enabled device.
The Kotter Group claimed that it hosts agency applications and customer information at a secure data center, instead of having the applications and data residing on a server inside the agency office. Its data centers are protected by layers of security, including perimeter firewalls, security monitoring, real-time system monitoring, system lockdown to prevent the use of unknown or unwanted applications within a network, virus protection, and physical security to restrict access to facilities.
According to the company, the Hyper DeskTop provides a new way of computing that leverages the power of the Internet and advances in technologies like virtualization to monitor, maintain, and upgrade critical applications and data and keep in compliance with strict and ever-changing regulations. Using “in the cloud” computing, Hyper DeskTop simplifies the IT process while providing with unlimited access to data and applications in a safe and reliable environment. They install a small program on computer called the Remote Desktop Connection. It allows to securely access programs and data remotely. In other words, users have a computer desktop which is actually on another machine, thus making it “virtual.”
This Hyper Desktop can be accessed from any Internet-connected computer. This makes it possible for users to work from anywhere, anytime, and to connect remote offices and users. It also eliminates the risks and hassles associated with hosting users own data and applications internally.
In a press release, Alan Hedrick, owner of County Wide Insurance noted that having an IT technician on call cost the agency about $90 per user per month. After switching to The Kotter Group’s Hyper Desktop, their monthly computing expense has been cut nearly in half, plus they no longer have to budget for new equipment, software upgrades, and other related computing expenses that come with in-house computer networks.
