NASA Extends IT Support Services Contract with DB Consulting Group
Space research agency NASA announced that its Glenn Research Center in Cleveland has awarded a two-year contract option to DB Consulting Group, a global consulting company, for information technology services.
The contract option has a value that will not exceed $36 million.
The performance-based contract covers on-site information technology services to Glenn Research Center. Services include computational scientific services, facility support, business systems, emerging technology applications, computer and software engineering, and advanced networking systems development, according to a press statement.
The extension that begins Aug. 24 2011 ends Aug. 23, 2013 and increases the total value of the contract to $88 million. The original contract was awarded in September 2008.
Last year, NASA selected DB Consulting Group to offer information technology, multimedia, information management and external relations support services at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston.
The size of the services contract was $251.5 million. The services provided by DB Group will primarily be under the management of Johnson's Information Resources Directorate with participation by the Office of External Relations.
The three-year base performance period is valued at $150.5 million. Two one-year options are valued at $50.5 million each. The base period extends from Jan. 18, 2011 through Jan. 17, 2014.
Recently, NASA announced that the commercial crew development program enabled NASA to work with private industry to build affordable access to low earth orbit and the International Space Station.
The program covers fixed government investment with industry partners having to put up investment money and competition, to encourage cost-effectiveness and ensuring that NASA was not solely reliant upon a single provider.
