With Revenue and Sales Up, Voxbone Calls 2011 'Breakthrough Year'

January 24, 2012

If there’s one thing that Voxbone (News - Alert) took away from 2011, it was that it was a “breakthrough year.”

For the first time since commencing operations in 2005, the communications company experienced demand from some of the biggest names in the global telecommunications marketplace, including iBasis, Telefonica and Skype (News - Alert), and achieved immense growth through sales among providers of next-generation VoIP services.

These achievements all resulted in a 19 percent rise in revenue, as well as a 33 percent uptick in network traffic on its global network to 2.8 billion.

Voxbone, a provider of inbound communications, is attributing much of its growth trajectory to corporations increasingly adopting Internet-based communications services in business and consumer applications, and veering away from antiquated switch networks. More specifically, Voxbone correlates a significant upswing in business with worldwide B2B network service providers with cloud communications acceleration in 2011.

“Personally, it’s very satisfying to realize the dream we had for Voxbone in starting the company in 2005,” said CEO Rod Ullens in a press release. “The progress we have seen since our start and the magnitude of the customers we continue to attract, especially in recent years, firmly indicate that Voxbone has achieved a reputation for quality in the global telecoms market.”

Other indicators of growth in 2011 for Voxbone include deployment of its own network infrastructure in Germany, Luxemburg and Spain; its selection by the United Nations to implement the country’s own unique country code for disaster relief; expansion of its global presence by incorporating its U.S. subsidiary; as the appointment of several regional business executives in North America and Southeast Asia; and reaching new employment numbers to truly embody a multicultural global company.

Accommodating an ever-growing staff was also key in Voxbone’s 2011 accomplishments, as the company moved to new and bigger headquarters in central Brussels, and opened up a new office in Mumbai.

As for 2012, Voxbone intends to unveil a series of new product portfolios, as well as improve its existing offerings and broaden its network footprint by adding five to seven countries in Asia and South America to its current 51 countries.

In an interview with TMCnet in early January, Voxbone’s Ullens disclosed that one of its new products would be “revolutionary.”

“We expect accelerated adoption of cloud communications in the SME segment,” Ullens told TMCnet. “Several factors support this projection. Our customers that offer hosted IVR, PBX and collaboration services, such as Voxeo phone.com and Powwownow.com, have grown a lot in 2011. Industry giants, such as Microsoft (News - Alert), have invested massively in cloud communication services and have announced their first major customer wins. Big corporations will offer PBX services from their internal clouds. This often cross-country centralization of enterprise telephony infrastructure will create major demand in wholesale VoIP services. We are the technological bridge between cloud communication networks and traditional PSTN and mobile networks, so Voxbone should have a great 2012.”

And, it looks like Voxbone is looking to continue cloud communications acceleration into 2012 by starting off with its Platinum sponsorship of the Cloud Communications Expo, a collocated event taking place at next week’s ITEXPO (News - Alert) East 2012 in Miami, Fla. At Cloud Communications Expo, being held Jan. 31 to Feb. 3, business professionals will gather to learn the fundamentals of cloud-based communications business models, as well as trends occurring in the market.
