Convergys Fills 60 Positions for At-Home Employees

June 07, 2010
Convergys, a Cincinnati -based international provider of outsourced and integrated billing and customer care services for major companies, has hosted a job fair to add 60 more at-home employees to its call center in McGregor, Ohio.

The company has reduced its in-office personnel at the call center from 400 to 120.

Convergys (News - Alert) operates more than 80 centers around the world, but has begun to put more emphasis on at-home instead of office-based work. The Convergys website has a section dedicated to the company's work-at-home program.

The new at-home workers hired by the company will serve as customer service representatives for a Convergys client representing the telecommunications industry. As such, they will be tasked to field calls from their homes.

Tara Hurt, the Convergys recruiting manager in McGregor, said that the company's home-agent vacancies are a competitive option for retirees, those searching for a second income, and those wishing to work full-time from their homes.

Another 80 employees already work from their residences in Central Texas, Convergys spokeswoman Amy Williams said. She added that the company's at-home employees receive a base salary of $9 per hour, qualify for health, vision and dental insurance, paid and unpaid leaves, and a 401(k) program, and may also earn incentive pay.

Those wishing to apply as at-home workers at Convergys are required to possess excellent customer-service experience, the ability to work flexible hours, and strong computer skills, Williams said. They must also pass a successful background check. Applicants are also required to have a quiet place to work, a PC monitor, and high-speed Internet access meeting the minimum company standards.

Convergys took over a 52,000-square-foot building formerly occupied by Dell (News - Alert) in McGregor's industrial district two years ago and employed hundreds of workers to fill the facility. It has since begun to focus on hiring at-home customer service representatives. The company's lease on the building expires on October 31, and no formal announcement has yet been made as to its plans regarding the facility.

Convergys was recently in news for completing six years in Hyderabad, India.
