Liberty Mutual Group Opens New IT Center in Boston; Fuels Local Job Market
A Boston-based global provider of insurance products and services, Liberty Mutual Group has created a new Information Technology Development Center in Boston. According to the company, the new center is going to be a job-spinner.
Liberty Mutual group will soon start hiring new full-time employees to staff the operation with 100 new positions. The company will welcome both entry-level and experienced professionals to take up the roles for software developers, project managers and architects who will work with both mainstream and innovative technologies, including Web and mobile development, and cloud computing.
In a press release, Liberty Mutual said information is available at the Liberty Mutual Group IT Careers website for individuals interested in learning more about job opportunities in the new IT Development Center and applying for positions. Liberty Mutual encourages people to visit the site frequently since it will be adding positions over time.
According to Liberty Mutual Group Chairman and CEO Edmund F. Kelly, the new operation center exemplifies how the growth of the company is benefiting Boston and nearby regions. The company banks on the local IT talent pool to create a strong IT workforce, which is expected to play a crucial role in the company’s future success as a global insurer.
“Boston has a talented, creative and innovative workforce that is a perfect match for Liberty Mutual's new IT Development Center. Hiring 100 employees immediately will continue Boston's economic recovery. This is great news for our city,” said Mayor Thomas M. Menino, who supported Kelly’s views.
“Liberty Mutual is one of the Commonwealth's premiere employers, and Governor Patrick's Administration has worked in partnership with the company and the city to ensure they are growing and creating jobs right here in Massachusetts. We are very pleased that Liberty Mutual is expanding its presence in the IT sector - a critical component of our thriving innovation economy,” Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Greg Bialecki said in a statement.
A highly appreciated employer, Liberty Mutual currently operates IT Development Centers in Dover and Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Indianapolis, Indiana; and, Seattle, Washington.
In mid-February this year, Liberty Mutual reported fourth quarter 2010 results. It announced net income of $576 million and $1.678 billion for the three months and 12 months ended Dec. 31, 2010, and increases of $103 million and $655 million over the same periods in 2009.
