Liberty Mutual Group Expands Presence in Boston
In addition to helping people live safer and secure lives, the Liberty Mutual Group, a diversified global insurer and fifth largest property and casualty insurer in the U.S., has decided to offer the residents of the Boston community an opportunity to recover from the economic setback it suffered, by expanding its presence in Massachusetts.
Announcing the creation of a new IT Development Center in Boston, Liberty Mutual commenced the hiring of 100 new full-time employees for various entry level and experienced roles, to staff the operation. The employees, who will range from software developers to architects, will work with mainstream and innovative technologies that include Web and mobile development and cloud computing.
In a press release, Edmund F. Kelly, Liberty Mutual Group chairman and CEO, said that the announcement demonstrated how the growth of Liberty Mutual's worldwide operations benefited Boston and the region and how the present expansion was important to Liberty Mutual's success as a global insurer. He looked forward to attracting the best talent in the universities and the IT pool.
Secretary of Housing & Economic Development Greg Bialecki made a statement regarding Governor Patrick's partnership with Liberty Mutual to ensure the creating of jobs in Massachusetts. He also added that the success of the insurance company was crucial to the thriving of Boston's innovation economy.
Liberty Mutual presently has IT Development Centers in Dover and Portsmouth, N.H.; Indianapolis, Ind.; and, Seattle, Wash. In October 2010, Liberty Mutual broke ground on a 22-story, 590,000 square-foot office building at 157 Berkeley Street as the company expanded its global headquarters located in Boston.
