Autodesk Unveils AutoCAD WS Mobile App for Android

April 15, 2011

Allowing Android users to view, edit and share their designs through web browsers and mobile devices, Autodesk (News - Alert) has announced the availability of the AutoCAD WS mobile application on the Android platform.

Users can store AutoCAD drawings and project files in an easy-to-access online workspace, claimed the company.

With the introduction of AutoCAD WS on Android (News - Alert), an expanded group of users can now enjoy the benefits of effortless collaboration with architects, designers and engineers from anywhere in the world. Also, they can take their designs with them—wherever they go, the company has stated. The advantages available for the users of AutoCAD WS for Android include a simplified, intuitive set of viewing, editing, and markup tools so users can work on their designs while on the go.

“Architects, engineers and designers have clearly communicated that they want access to their AutoCAD projects on their Android devices and we are more than happy to meet their needs,” said Tal Weiss, AutoCAD WS software development manager, Autodesk. “The impressive and consistent growth of the Android ecosystem serves as an excellent platform for Autodesk to further expand its accessibility through AutoCAD WS.”

Through the integrated online tab, users can open drawings from email attachments, sync files from the web, or upload drawings directly from AutoCAD software. When an Internet connection is unavailable, drawings can also be saved locally for use in the field. The text annotation tool in the Android version of AutoCAD WS supports integrated voice commands available on devices running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above, the company has stated.

Recently, the company announced updates to AutoCAD WS to facilitate AutoCAD software users to view, edit and share their designs through web browsers and mobile devices. The AutoCAD WS web and mobile application for AutoCAD software lets you view, edit, and share DWG drawings through a web browser or mobile device. AutoCAD WS now supports viewing, editing and sharing of 2D Autodesk Inventor DWG files with more than 900,000 downloads.
