WhitePages Publishes List of 10 Most Aggressive 'Call Spammers' of 2011
Recently, WhitePages unveiled the 10 most aggressive Call Spammers of 2011. Call spam is defined as unsolicited calls or texts to mobile phones from telemarketers, debt collectors and scammers and the list was compiled after an analysis of over 45 million unsolicited calls or texts to its Caller ID customers.
The most persistent spammers in 2011 were telemarketing companies like World Wide Commerce Associates (WCA), Grocery Savings Direct and Courtesy Awards. However, a large chunk of the list was made up of the nation's most aggressive debt collectors.
More than 30 percent of all calls placed to cellphones are from numbers that are not already in people's phone contacts and that nearly 25 percent of these unknown calls are Call Spam.
One percent of Call Spammers were responsible for 6.5 million calls and texts, which means a very small group of callers account for a large share of Call Spam volume, according to a press statement.
WhitePages found that many telemarketers and debt collectors call or text from numerous phone numbers with a variety of area codes and that their favorite time to call is on Mondays at 11:00 a.m. PST.
Round out the Call Spammers list, according to WhitePages are Allied Interstate, CBE Group, Consumer Connections, CMI Group, ER Solutions/Convergent, Portfolio Recovery Associates and Santander.
Recently, the company announced the launch of Localicious for Android (News - Alert), a mobile app that identifies the exact neighborhood location of a device to surface the most relevant tips, reviews and trending hot spots nearby, helping people discover the best local businesses that are relevant to their interests and lifestyle.
