KIDK Reports Obama's Re-election Triggers Massive Layoffs

November 16, 2012

An Ammon call center is closing its doors. The news comes on the heels of announcements this past week that two other call centers are either closing down or laying off dozens of employees. Since Election Day, Eastern Idaho has seen three call centers close. Political polls are conducted by at least two of them. Logically, because the election is over, the employees would have been out of work.

Announcing the layoffs earlier this week, the latest company to cut dozens of call center employees is Promark Research Corporation. According to an attorney for the Texas-based company, Randall Perrier, the layoffs are the result of President Barack Obama’s re-election. Perrier states that the reason for the layoffs was purely political, not economical.

Moreover, in Ammon, more than 100 people working at the Promark call center blame President Obama's re-election for costing them their jobs, but not because of his policies. One Promark employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated that they were bluntly refused any further shifts.

"It's no secret they did a lot of work for the Republican Party and for Gov. Romney. Had Romney been re-elected, there'd be the potential for additional polling for doing tracking polls for other related public opinion surveys," said Perrier.

KIDK reports that most of the call center’s efforts were focused on collecting polling data for the Romney campaign, and officials hoped a win for Romney would extend their contracts. At the end of the year, the call center’s lease expires. Across the nation, as the reason for massive layoffs, the center joins a long list of businesses blaming President Obama’s re-election.

While Papa John’s Pizza CEO announced that it may reduce employee’s hours so they do not have to be covered on “Obamacare”, Murray Energy announced the layoff of 156 employees. In Georgia, because the owners are anticipating higher taxes and insurance regulations, West Cinema is closing down.
