Elephant Group will offer Jamaica residents numerous employment opportunities when the company opens its first call center in Montego Bay this March.
The company, which assists other companies in enhancing customer relationships, will employ 300 individuals at the Montego Bay facility.
The new call center is part of the company's goal to expand its operations, especially in the Caribbean.
"We have nine call centers in various countries such as New Jersey and Florida and we also have a call centre that we outsource in Utah," Zenya Gallagher, vice president of human resources and corporate operations at Elephant Group, recently told the Observer West during a job fair held at the University of the West Indies Western Jamaica Campus in Montego Bay. "In the Caribbean we are based in Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, and Dominica. We also have a call centre in India and the Philippines. We are expanding a lot in the Caribbean, and Jamaica is going to be one of our biggest sources.”
Gallagher said she is looking forward to bringing the company to Jamaica.
"We are really excited to be coming to Jamaica and I really love it here, so I am really hoping that we will have a successful business here," she said.
Jamaica has recently seen an influx of available job opportunities with the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme. The program, which was launched by the People's National Party government earlier last year, has employed almost 21,000 individuals in the fields of infrastructure, housing and agriculture. Moreover, the Statistical Institute of Jamaica reported that unemployment rates from April to July decreased from 14.3 to 12.8 percent.
Despite the increase in jobs with JEEP and now Elephant Group, Jamaica is currently on the brinks of falling into an economic crisis because of a fiscal deficit and the lack of an International Monetary Fund agreement.
