The northern parts of the United States are experiencing a major cold snap right now, but that hasn’t stopped the outbound call center space from heating up. There was plenty of news from the space this week, ranging from the loss some call center jobs to new call centers promoting health and well being to an expansion of a call center program in Turkey, quite a lot happened overall.
Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.
In somewhat sobering news, AT&T (News - Alert) has decided to remove 66 full-time jobs from an outbound call center in Greensboro, N.C. The company explained that it is removing the jobs from the credit and collections call center in as part of its business reduction initiative. Though these 66 jobs are being eliminated, AT&T emphasized that it will continue to hire new employees both in North Carolina and across the southeast, stating that it has been hiring technicians and retail employees recently.
There was news about a completely different type of call center in Klamath Country, Oregon this week. The county established a 211 call center as part of its initiative to promote health and the betterment of the community. The service will provide referrals to community members for employment support, medical resources, emergency resources, and youth and family support.
In international news, Globalturk Capital has invested in the Turkish call center company Tempo Cagri Hizmetleri A.S. “The partnership . . . represents an important milestone in the life of Tempo. With its strong funding base and substantial institutional partners--both local and international--Tempo is well positioned to rapidly increase its share of the promising call center and distant services market.”
