Aerospace and Defense Industry Selects VeriSign Managed Public Key Infrastructure Service
By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor
VeriSign, Inc., a provider of Internet infrastructure for the networked world, reportedly announced that its Managed Public Key Infrastructure or PKI service has been selected by aerospace and defense organizations to deploy a PKI solution cost effectively.
The company’s Managed PKI reduces customer risk and minimizes up-front costs involved in acquiring systems, software and people to operate an in-house Certificate Authority for cross-certification with CertiPath.
CertiPath is the identity management and secure information-sharing authority for aerospace and defense or A&D organizations. It was established to allow the secure sharing of digital information among partners and customers. The CertiPath PKI Bridge allows A&D organizations to conduct business operations globally using digital identities based on uniform requirements for medium and high assurance certification.
VeriSign’s (News - Alert) Managed PKI service helps manage the complete lifecycle for digital identities including issuance, renewal and revoking of certificates through a flexible hosted platform. It can also escrow and recover private keys and create Certificate Revocation Lists. VeriSign’s managed service can be used by organizations to produce a PKI solution cost effectively.
“The CertiPath PKI Bridge offers defense and aerospace companies a way to collaborate in a trusted environment, and we’re proud to support that environment with the VeriSign's Managed PKI Service,” said Adam Geller, vice president, enterprise and government authentication at VeriSign, in a statement. “What have kept many enterprises from deploying PKI are the burdensome costs and infrastructure requirements of traditional solutions. VeriSign solves this with a managed offering that makes PKI cost-effective, quick to deploy and easy to manage.”
Jeff Nigriny, president of Virginia-based CertiPath, said that every company in A&D has a need for high-assurance credentials, but only some of them have the resources available to build and manage the infrastructure needed. With the introduction of a co-sourcing for the CertiPath community, the market will be able to achieve greater access and also benefit from identity assurance.
VeriSign provides security solution and services to commercial and government customers. It also provides mission-critical security and infrastructure services for the Internet or networked world. It helps companies and consumers globally engage in communications and commerce confidently.
CertiPath offers A&D organizations with a PKI-based Communication Bridge which allow the secure sharing of digital data between partners, suppliers and customers irrespective of the supply chain size. Its customers include Boeing (News - Alert), Lockheed Martin, EADS and others.
