Vodafone Germany Deployed Amdocs Mediation 8 to Manage Large Data Volumes
The global provider of customer experience systems (CES (News - Alert)), Amdocs recently announced the selection of Amdocs Mediation 8 by Vodafone (News
- Alert) Germany, the largest service provider in Europe, serving nearly 35 million subscribers with mobile, fixed and broadband Internet services.
Vodafone Germany, which is actively pursuing strategies for modernizing and simplifying operations, believes that the new system would help the company launch new offerings rapidly and efficiently, while reducing total cost of system ownership.
The Amdocs (News
- Alert) Mediation 8 solution has been designed to collect and processes network usage events for billing purposes. In a single system, Amdocs Mediation handles all service types (voice, data or content), payment plans (prepaid or postpaid, fixed or content-based billing) and processing modes (real time or batch), officials at Amdocs explained in a press release.
According to Amdocs, the deployment of Mediation 8 will help Vodafone Germany to process large volumes of data; the deployment will make Vodafone capable of handling more than 400 million data network events per day.
In addition, by switching to a Linux-based system, the mobile giant will also be able to reduce hardware costs
“The deployment of Amdocs Mediation 8 meets another milestone in our strategy to modernize and simplify operations. With a system that delivers high mediation performance on low-cost hardware, we can support increasing data volumes as smartphone usage continues to grow, while reducing total cost of system ownership,” director of IT Operations at Vodafone Germany Klaus Lange, explained in a statement.
“To maintain its position as a leading services innovator, Vodafone Germany is looking for a system that will enable them to launch new offerings rapidly and efficiently. With out-of-the-box functionality, Amdocs Mediation 8 will enable Vodafone Germany to quickly introduce emerging, network technologies and services and help assure revenues as data usage increase,” Rebecca Prudhomme, the vice president of products and solutions at Amdocs commented in the press release.
Vodafone Germany is a long standing client of Amdocs. Previously, Vodafone deployed Amdocs business and operational support systems (B/OSS). Most recently, Amdocs OSS was used to support Vodafone’s successful roll out of 4G LTE (News - Alert) (long term evolution) mobile network.
In July last year, Amdocs reportedly signed a managed services agreement with Cellcom (News - Alert) Israel, the leading mobile provider in Israel with over three million customers. The contract required Amdocs to manage day-to-day IT operations and application development and maintenance in support of the service provider's billing, customer care and ordering operations.
