Ascom Debuts Ascom Home Care Services for the Independent Living Segment

June 21, 2011

Ascom (News - Alert) Wireless Solutions announced the introduction of Ascom Home Care Services for the Independent Living Segment.

These services will be suitable for the needs of the elderly who want to live independently within their own homes. This is made possible by Ascom, a supplier of on-site wireless communications.

“Ascom Wireless Solutions is a strong solution provider of mission critical communication for the acute care and institutional care segments,” said Peter Härdi, vice president of international marketing and product management for Ascom Wireless Solutions, in a release.  “In a study completed for Ascom by Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert), we see these institutions are continually driven by pressure to reduce costs, as well as creating greater convenience for patients.”

“The trend is to provide a safe, caring environment for those individuals capable of living at home,” added Hardi.  “The new line of Ascom Home Care Services gives home bound individuals a direct link to professional care or emergency help much in the same way our patient monitoring/critical alarm solutions directly link medical staff with critical patients in need of immediate assistance.”

The Ascom Care Phone (News - Alert) is the first among several products the company has planned to launch to meet the needs of individuals who desire to live with dignity in their own homes, as they get older or when recovering from some illness.

Ruud Lohuis, business development manager for Ascom Wireless Solutions pointed out that the company is striving to transform the aspiration of requirements of independent living into purpose-built devices and solutions. These have been designed to help home-bound individuals.

The Ascom Care Phone provides a secure line of communication and assures individuals living alone that help will arrive when needed. It offers them the feeling of security and gives them the mobility to move in and around their homes and outside.

The Ascom Care Phones includes a wireless pendant (Class I approved) that can be worn around the neck/on the body within the home or close neighborhood and a base unit. This wireless connection is checked regularly by a link test option which tests the connection between wireless pendent and the base unit, explained officials.

If the alarm is sent and not received successfully, the wireless transmitter will send it again using another frequency until it is received. The Ascom Care Phones are in contact with a central receiver through an analogue and/or GSM network. These alarms are then forwarded to mobile phones, DECT (News - Alert)/Wi-Fi-phones or to a PC with an operator from the receiver.

In 2010, Ascom Wireless Solutions’ teleCARE IP system, which is used widely by hospitals and care homes, was augmented by the integration of the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) feature into the tool.
