Sports League Membership for RainedOut Crosses 1,000 mark

September 21, 2009
Omnilert reportedly announced sports league membership for its flagship product RainedOut, a text message service for sports leagues and clubs, has crossed the 1,000 mark all across the country.

"RainedOut.com has made it much easier to communicate to others about cancellations,” said Ben Hull, recreation supervisor of athletics at Isle of Palms Recreation Department in South Carolina, in a statement. “It helps make my job easier."
Officials said that the service was the first of its type when it made its debut in 2004 to alert players, coaches, parents, referees, spectators and others that sports events were cancelled due to inclement weather. Now, however, it is being used to broadcast real-time messages such as field changes, schedule changes, tournament updates, call for volunteers, parking directions, registration reminders, and more.
Loudoun Soccer in Leesburg, Va., was the first league to use the service back in 2004.
“RainedOut.com has allowed Loudoun Soccer to easily communicate with its over 7,000 players and their parents about the status of fields,” Office Manager Margie Brien said in a statement. “They provide notices in a timely manner to allow coaches, players and parents to make practice  and game decisions.”
The company said that the service is accessible from S=smart phones, which are devices that mostly have push mail and messaging always on, so that message receivers can get messages the moment the originator and sender hits the go, send button. The recipients may be either individuals, small groups such as a single team, or many teams, the entire league, sport and division.
"On behalf of Lernerville Speedway and the entire World Racing Group organization, we love the RainedOut Web site and service,” said Eric J. Westendorf, public relations director at Lernerville Speedway, in a statement. “It saves our office literally hundreds, if not thousands of phone calls on questionable race nights. The fans have also expressed their appreciation of the service en masse. It has been a very successful program for us."
Officials said that it is a Web-based service, no downloads, additional phone lines, purchase or upgrades of any type are required. All those interested can register for the service for free.
Recently, Omnilert reportedly unveiled Amerilert version 3.0 to help users to combine disparate emergency alerting systems and other communication assets into one management console for crisis communications and business continuity.
